James R. Geist, Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Detroit Mercy, earned a DDS from the University of Illinois in 1979 and an MS in Oral Pathology from Indiana University in 1986. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Geist has served on the Board of Directors and as President of the ABOMR (1997 – 2002) and President of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from 2005 to 2007. H e is Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging Center at the University. Dr. Geist teaches courses in radiology and pathology to dental hygiene, dental, and graduate dental students. His research interests include the diagnostic efficacy of imaging systems.
Dr. Geist has been a member of the editorial board of the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology section of the journal Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology Oral Radiology since 2000. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of radiology and oral pathology and has been an invited speaker throughout the US, Europe, and Asia.
